Queery is a podcast by American comedian Cameron Esposito, whom you might know from her tv show Take My Wife, in which she stars with her real-life wife Rhea Butcher.
It seeks to explore “individual stories of identity, personality and the shifting cultural matrix around gender, sexuality and civil rights” and has Cameron talk to different people from the LGBTQ+ community for about an hour each time.
The concept is interesting and in some episodes I feel she pulls this off very well. The two individual episodes with Tegan Quin and Sara Quin of Tegan & Sara fame stand out in my mind for this, also the interview with Evan Rachel Wood.
Sometimes I feel she interrupts too much, takes center stage too much, and sometimes when she’s thinking hard about something, the conversation slows to a crawl. An example of this is the very interesting but very slow episode in which she talks to Rebecca Sugar, the creator of Steven Universe.
I was sad to find out that older episodes are nowadays only available via Stitcher Premium. This is a shame considering the topic – if it were me, I’d want the postcast to be available to people who might not care enough to spring for yet another subscription to yet another service. I feel a Patreon account would have been the right way to go here, but that’s just my two cents.
At any rate, Queery is a podcast worth checking out if you’re interested in LGBTQ issues. You can find the more recent episodes available on Apple Podcasts and follow the podcast on Twitter.
